Network Security Appliance and Solution

The era of information explosion

As the worldwide number of internet-connected devices growth explosion, Edge computing is becoming conclusive in managing the vast amounts of data being generated and supporting innovative, targeted applications IoT, SD-WAN, uCPE, FWA, 5G cellular, Wi-Fi 6, SASE, Cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence enablement. These technologies will continue to be critical areas of focus in the next few years.

Information technology and operational technology are converging, accelerated by virtualization, and consolidated for software-defined everything environments.
When NFV is combined with an SD-WAN deployment such that one piece of customer premises equipment can support multiple functions (e.g., firewall, IDS/IPS, load balancing, WAN acceleration) in addition to the core SD-WAN capability. This is particularly attractive for smaller branches, where the enterprise might not have much local IT support. Portwell provides Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products built for SD-WAN and uCPE to help companies stay connected. SD-WAN enables various deployment options, including complete cloud, hardware, and hybrid-based solutions. SD-WAN technology has also been widely adopted for providing easy management and consolidation of branch offices from central locations.

Use Cases

Network Access Control (NAC)

NAC defines and implements the provision and policy of network security including how an end-node device would be able to connect to the network.

Firewall

Firewall permits or denies any network communication based on a set of pre-defined rules between the public internet and private enterprise network to from any outside threats.

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

VPN creates a virtual tunnel that hides the data and IP address of a remote public internet user.

Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS)

IDS primarily focuses on identifying possible incidents, then logging and reporting these attempts of violation. IPS could block any detected intrusion attempts.

Anti-Spam, Virus, Spyware

Implemented on Secure Web Gateways (SWG), a gateway appliance, to scan all incoming network data and prevent malware threats.

Content Filtering

This content-aware function typically monitors outbound sensitive data and will stop the delivery of restricted content, if not authorized.
