Portwell has collaborated with project partners to upgrade and optimize the image inspection process in manufacturing, enhancing the efficiency and stability of quality inspections for pharmaceutical products and bottled beverage containers. In the inspection of beverage containers, it is crucial to ensure that each container meets standards for shape, sealing, and surface integrity to guarantee safety and stability during storage and transportation. For pharmaceuticals, precise checks are required to confirm that each pill’s size, shape, color, and surface are defect-free, ensuring all medications meet strict medical standards and preventing appearance issues from affecting efficacy or causing user misjudgment. The image inspection devices use high-resolution cameras and advanced image processing technology to perform continuous, high-speed, and high-precision inspections automatically, significantly improving efficiency and accuracy while reducing human error and costs.
Due to the emphasis on efficiency and accuracy, the embedded systems in the image inspection equipment must be high-performance and equipped with multiple network ports to enhance data transmission speed, meeting the ever-increasing inspection standards and production speeds. Additionally, to accommodate long-term production operations, the systems must meet low power consumption requirements to ensure operational stability and cost reduction. Based on customer needs, the project also requires customized development and integration of BIOS, EC, ECC, and API to ensure complete functionality. The extended local testing and verification time, along with the customer’s requirement for specific regional materials to ensure quality stability and consistency, increases procurement and assembly complexity, prolonging material lead times and necessitating early orders. Each product also undergoes a 24-hour burn-in process during production to ensure system stability and reliability.
To address these needs, Portwell provided the PCOM-B655 module computer, featuring the 10th Gen Intel Core processors with high performance and low power consumption, supporting ECC memory and a wide range of external interfaces. Combined with Portwell’s customized baseboard, expansion cards, heatsink, and processor, this comprehensive embedded solution helped fully upgrade the original image inspection system. Throughout the project development process, Portwell’s localized DMS services and R&D capabilities have been highly praised by the customer. The service team not only provides regular updates but also offers real-time development support and consulting, significantly shortening development timelines.
